by RDECOM

I’m a 11th grader and planning to go abroad for college
Do you think if I want to go to Japan I need to get some special test (like toefl for english based country)?
And how about the money?
What are the good university in Japan?
Is aiming for the scholarship would be very tough?

Colleges and universities in Japan starts in April and entrance tests is usually in January and February that will be held at respective campus. For international students are required to take Japanese proficiency test in addition to entrance exam.which ,depends on school and major, usually includes math, social science or science and sometime includes an interviewing.
For detail taking Japanese test check at government website at www.JASSO.go.jp
Tuition may be cheaper than those for private school in US and living accommodation will depends on the area, school dorm facility is very limited, so you have to find one room apartment (may have to share bathroom) or nice condominium, if you can afford.
There is only one school that US FAFSA will be granted. That is Temple University in Japan.
Scholarship from Japanese government is hard to come by for undergraduate international students.
Good university? Just as in US there are thousands of colleges/universities throughout four Japanese islands, from world renowned University of Tokyo to not known to even Japanese in Remote area.
Schools know to the most Japanese in Tokyo area are:

University of Tokyo (Pu)
Waseda University (Pr)
Meiji University (pr)
Keio University (Pr)
Aoyama Gakuin University (Pr)
Sophia University (Pr)
Rikkyo University (Pr)
Hitotsubashi University (Pu)

We were running 4 mile distance. For training exercise runs we (the team) were put on a timed 10 mile run. We were scheduled to run for an hour which is a 6 minute mile pace. That is just one training exercise and the coach did go out and recruit and give scholarships to attract the best runners from around the country. The year i ran there was at least 3 and 4 top distance runners from different schools around the U.S.A. and even had one from Australia.capable of winning in the normal competitions so it was friendly competitive amongst the team’s runners their own selfs for #1 runner on the team honors. We competed nationally and the coach expected these best to be near the leaders or leading the pack in any venue along the course. The times were barely 4.50 +/- minute miles for the 4 mile run. So I think you are pretty good and deserve what ever a coach offers for you. Good Luck.
