can you confirm if this is a quadcore laptop?

http://www.logicbuy.com/deals/samsung-np-r780-js01us-17-inch-core-i5-gaming-laptop/18582.aspx

It is a DUAL-core, not a quad.

In the Core i# series naming, i#-7xx and up is quad, i#-699 and below are dual.

Other than that, it’s actually a pretty good system.

It looks like a Dual Core

it has Intel Core5 i5-430 processor.

On September 8, 2009, Intel released the first Core i5 processor: The Core i5 750,[1] which is a 2.66 GHz quad-core Lynnfield processor with Hyper-threading disabled. Lynnfield Core i5 processors have an 8 MB L3 cache, a DMI bus running at 2.5 GT/s and support for dual-channel DDR3-800/1066/1333 memory. The same processors with different sets of features (Hyper-Threading and other clock frequencies) enabled are sold as Core i7-8xx and Xeon 3400-series processors, which should not be confused with high-end Core i7-9xx and Xeon 3500-series processors based on Bloomfield.

The Core i5-5xx mobile processors are named Arrandale and based on the 32 nm Westmere shrink of the Nehalem microarchitecture. Arrandale processors have integrated graphics capability but only two processor cores. They were released in January 2010, together with Core i7-6xx and Core i3-3xx processors based on the same chip. The L3 cache in Core i5-5xx processors is reduced to 3 MB, while the Core i7-6xx will use the full cache and the Core i3-3xx will have no support for Turbo Boost[2]. Clarkdale, the desktop version of Arrandale, is sold as Core i5-6xx, along with related Core i3 and Pentium brands. It has Hyper-Threading enabled and the full 4 MB L3 cache

toshiba tablet get PREVIOUS QUESTION :
i have a Samsung r780 notebook with i3processor/4gb ram/ nvidia gt 330m 1gb, and during rendering with 3ds max it shuts off completely. This didn’t always happen, but i am not sure why it started. The laptop is +- 1,5 years old, and i used to render there all the time.

well i agree about the i3 being quite weak. still it used to render perfectly.
so i think it probably is the overheating, even though i dont have it in a flat surface and i always make sure to keep it in some improvised “legs” to leave some room under it. Do you think a cooling base would solve it? and is the dust accumulation really a possibility, since in other programs like autocad or cs5 apps it runs super smooth?

thank you so much

Rendering takes a lot of processing power so I believe you are right in your assumption. A cooling pad would help.

Heat from dirt blocking the fine fins on the cooling unit inside. Can of compressed air should help but sometimes a laptop just isn’t the right unit to use for things like you are doing.

If it’s a laptop and it used to render perfectly it may not be an overheating problem. I found that the problem in my laptop was that after a few years of ownership the battery became unstable and the system would shut down after a while of doing anything. Without it getting too hot. By try a cooling base too.

Dust is always a possibility. Make sure to do proper maintenance. Cooling base may help but is most likely not the root problem. I would suggest replacing the battery as someone else mentioned. If it does the same thing you can always take it back and get a refund so, no harm, no foul. But in my experience that should fix your problem.

Overheating problem although a cooling pad would be ideal. Although this would only isn’t a permanent solution.
