Do you believe it is legal for there to be ethnic based scholarships?

aims scholarship
by RDECOM

As a concerned citizen, it has come to my attention that many college scholarships are aimed towards specific ethnic groups i.e: Mexican, Blacks, and etc.

Do you think it is right for this to occur? Isn’t this, technically, racist against other ethnic groups? It’s not like humans can PICK what ethnicity they are.

It’s legal, but it’s messed up. They do it because some family’s are born into economic hardships. I still don’t think they should have them.

it can lead to reverse discrimination because many caucasian students are left to fend for themselves since they are not considered a minority.
however, i think many of these scholarships come from affirmative action and many universities trying to meet a quota of minority students.

Minority groups are typically and historically disadvantaged groups, hence why people are so interested in providing them financial help. Statistically speaking, fewer minorities (either by ethnicity, race, gender identification, or sexual orientation) go to college, fewer minorities have the financial resources to attend college, and MORE minorities live in areas with poor primary school systems than privileged (white) persons.

Of course it’s legal; these scholarships are generally private. They can give money to a person for being black, gay, disabled, exceptionally smart, active in volunteer work, possessing a sixth finger, purple-haired, or writing a damn good application essay. These are privately funded, not publicly. It’d be ILLEGAL for the government to say they can’t pick and choose who gets their funds. Especially because the people giving these funds often do so for very specific causes – for example, I randomly looked up one scholarship on my school’s website, and it’s being offered by an older woman who was one of the earliest women to graduate with an information technology degree, and now she offers scholarships to women in IT majors to help encourage more women to enter the field.

The government, on the other hand, does offer a few scholarships for people of disadvantaged backgrounds, but for the government, disadvantaged simply means “low income”. You can look through any governmental government-backed scholarships here:

Because my great great grandfather was Jewish or half Jewish. And I’m far from looking anything Jewish. I’m guessing I’m around 1% Jewish. Does that mean I’m part of the Jewish community and stuff? By the way, I’m around 98% Polynesian. And I’m Christian.
I was looking for scholarships and there are some scholarships aimed for specifically Jewish students…Do I qualify?

Judaism is a religion not a race! so no you don’t qualify

You can only consider yourself a certain ethnicity if it compromises the majority of your DNA. If it’s 50-50 then you can choose whichever you want.

And the majority of jews are the descendants of the ancient Israelis. The white jews were converts who mixed with the ethnic jews thus becoming ethnic jews themselves. It’s not very common for someone to convert to Judaism so it can be considered an ethnicity.

you are considered jewish by the jewish community only if your mother is jewish or if you have converted to judaism.

You Prob Do Qualify IDK

LOL this question is funny. You have to be a practicing Jew (or whatever religion) and prove it – to qualify for a religious scholarship.

By religion: jewish from ur mums side

ethnic: to be considered fully jew I think its 75% pls

at least 25%. if you convert to judaism you are not ethnically a jew. you are just a believer in judaism. i am jewish but i do not even follow the religion. and yes jewish is deffinitely an ethnic group. many of the american ones are not true jews honestly. they are only converts. true jewish people are middle eastern or have some blood from jews in the middle east.

Its not a question of “percentage”.

Its a question of “if your mother is Jewish, then you are.” So, if you can confirm that in fact, your mother’s mother’s mother’s etc. (going back as far as required) is Jewish, than you are.

Also, anyone is allowed to convert to Judaism and will be considered 100% Jewish.
